1. I've heard yoga is for flexible people. Do I need to be really bendy to start yoga classes?
No, you don't have to be flexible. Anyone can start a simple yoga practice. Some of the difficult poses can be modified to your ability. With practice, most find that their flexibility starts to increase (along with strength)
2. Is it best to eat before practice?
Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. This makes it an ideal way to start your day. If you are attending an evening class, you will want to ensure you haven't just had a heavy meal for at least 2-3hours. However, if you feel you may need some energy for the practice, you could snack up on dried fruit and seeds an hour or two before.
3. What do I need to wear?
You will need comfortable clothing that won't be too tight or rip when you get into unusual positions.
4. Do I need to bring any equipment to class?
All you really need to practice yoga is a non slip mat. These are provided, however, you are welcome to bring your own. You may also find blocks and straps useful to help you get into some poses.
5. I'm pregnant and my doctor advised me to do yoga. Can I come to your classes?
Yoga can be very beneficial in pregnancy and useful to prepare the body for childbirth. Ideally, you should wait till after you are past your 13th week and seek out a prenatal yoga class which is specifically taught with pregnancy in mind.
